Michigan State University Men's Volleyball

The MSU Men's Volleyball Club is a self-funded registered student organization, relying on student leadership to organize and operate season-long play and other sponsored events. It is one of the oldest and most established intercollegiate men's volleyball organizations in the nation.

The Club is a founding member of the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA), the oldest intercollegiate men's volleyball conference in the nation. The Club is also a founding member of the Big Ten Men's Volleyball Association (BTMVA) and the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation. Each of these men's collegiate volleyball organizations trace their roots back to East Lansing where MSU student leaders were among the first to organize men's intercollegiate play.

Unlike most states in the Midwest, Michigan does not sponsor boy's interscholastic high school varsity volleyball. Consequently, most MSU players first learn their playing skills while attending MSU. Still, since 1989, MSU has achieved above a .750 winning percentage, earning eleven Top 10 National Championship finishes, 7 MIVA Championships, 6 Big Ten Championships, 4 consecutive State of Michigan Championships and a perennial Top 25 national ranking. The Spartans have produced MIVA-MVP's and All-Americans at every starting position, a Gold Medal winning USA Volleyball Junior National Team coach and the 2006 National Coach of the Year, an NCAA Division 3 National Championship coach, a Michigan High School Athletic Association Championship coach, many junior and collegiate coaches, assistant coaches and certified USA Volleyball officials, numerous AVP and Midwest professional beach volleyball players, a US Olympic Men's "B" team member, and most importantly, an endearing and supporting alumni that travel back to the "Banks of the Red Cedar" each year to participate in special events like golf outings, tourneys, tailgates and pasta dinners at Coach's house.

Among other activities, MSU players have run player clinics for kids - from the inner-city of Detroit to the shores of Lake Michigan. The 50 team Spartan "Back to the Hardwood Tournament", established in 1989, is regarded as the largest pre-season intercollegiate men's volleyball tournament in the nation.

Academics have always been the club's #1 priority. The club's graduation rate since 1989 is 99%, making it the most academically distinguished sports team (club or varsity) on campus. Worldwide, the MSU men's volleyball alumni family includes teachers, doctors, lawyers, dentists, engineers, economists, business executives, career military, missionaries, scientists, and many other professionals. Academic excellence is achieved when student athletes learn and practice exceptional time-management skills and develop balanced priorities. Club members learn quickly how to overcome adversity, work hard, play hard and expect the best. Since 1989, the Club has achieved one of the most distinguished academic and competitive playing records in America. Its diverse "Green" and "White" Club family is MSU's best kept secret.
